Welcome to our web site!

We "switched" to the smooth gaited fox trotters - Here is our story.

We love Missouri Fox Trotters.  We have had other great horses but Fox Trotters have it all AND a smooth ride.     Our first Fox Trotter was Belle.  Since Jo had a barn full of arabian broodmares and a (wonderful) arabian stallion, Tahr Bask, when it came to riding in the mountains with a groups they  tend to  have rules against riding a stallion so broke a fox trotter mare, Belle, for a friend in 1988.  Later, we bought  Belle, then dam, Lady.  Belle won Mike over with her smooth ride and versatility to do about anything  from  team penning to trailriding.  Our first two palomino Fox Trotters came from Calgary Canada in 1999.  In the years since, most of our fox trotters were brought in from Wyoming with only a couple from Virginia.  Most importantly, we recently acquired  "The Manhatten Project" aka "Bomber" from North Dakota.  When looking for good smooth gaited ranch raised horses that have not been pampered, we have gone the distance over the years.

Missouri Fox Trotters have the most desirable  temperament, good feet & confirmation, beautiful heads, and a smooth ride to boot.  We do a lot of trail riding and we enjoy the mountains "on a fox trotter" most of all.   Some of our friends have switched  - See Photos on Friends & Past Fox Trotters page. Many people we match to a fox trotter have become our friends.   Our time in the woods on a horse is the therapy we need to deal with the stress in our busy lives.   When we match the right person to the right horse, it is a good feeling.

Saddle One Farm moved from Albemarle County to Augusta County in 2007.  We are located at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains at approximately mile post 11 of the Blue Ridge Parkway.  You can see our red barn roof from "Raven's Roost" on the parkway.  We moved to be near the George Washington National Forest which is a vast area with many miles of trails.

In 2008, we brought  "Bomber", our palomino stallion to Virginia.  Having Bomber provides the opportunity to breed and raise our own.  Check him out on the "stallion" page.   He has the bloodlines, the physical attributes, smooth gaits,  and beauty that we look for in a fox trotter.  Most importantly, Bomber has a  wonderful disposition that he passes to his foals.    Our goal is to breed a few of our mares and some outside mares in the coming years.

We appreciate your visit to our web site.  If you have any questions or need any additional information, please send us an email.

   Happy Trails to you!!
